Writing in Phys. Rev. Lett., 115, 087202 (2015), Danilo Puggioni and Prof. Rondinelli with their colleagues at SISSA describe a new route towards high-temperature multiferroics.
As detailed in their letter titled Design of a Mott Multiferroic from a Nonmagnetic Polar Metal, the approach relies on driving nonmagnetic polar metals into correlated insulating magnetic states by heterostructuring at the atomic scale (schematically shown to the right).
